1. What warm up was the most helpful during this unit and why?
I think the most helpful warm up was the shading techniques examples. It taught me several ways to shade using a pen. This was very eye-opening and extremely helpful towards my project. 2. Define composition and value. Composition: The arrangement of visual elements in a work of art, as distinct from the subject of a work. Value: Element of design that defines the light and darks in an artwork. 3. Pros and Cons of each medium (pen, charcoal, pencil) Pen: Can't erase, cleaner lines, darker, smoother than pencil Charcoal: Adds lots of texture, very powdery, easy to fix mistakes Pencil: Easy to draw small details, can erase mistakes, needs to be sharpened regularly, easily smudged

I am inspired by an artist named, Jihan Zencirli. Jihan is based in Los Angeles, California. Though recently she has been doing some work in New York. Jihan is a balloon artist in which she uses perfectly spherical balloons in carefully selected color palettes. Her passion of balloon art all started in 2010 when she was experimenting with a package of large balloons she had left over from a work project. After decorating one of the balloons to take to a birthday party, she began to get requests from friends and strangers to recreate the gift. Zencirli’s latest creation was a collaboration with the New York City Ballet. Every year, a contemporary artist is invited to install a site-specific artwork in the heart of Manhattan at Lincoln Center, where the ballet has been based since 1964. I found it very interesting and inspiring that Zencirli is the first female artist to be selected. Jihan's work acts as a huge inspiration to me because it's so out of the box. I have never seen anything else quite like her work and I love the uniqueness of it, She doesn't care about being different and not doing art like everyone else which draws me in. I will definitely continue to follow her art journey for further inspiration!
